Thanasis Sakkaris: “Every dish is a story worth telling”

“Life behind the kitchen’s eyes.”

This is the motto of the Executive Chef at My Way Hotel & Events in Patras. Intensity, pressure and rhythm. It is a world that for most remains invisible, but for those who live it daily it is very similar to life itself, demanding, fast, full of challenges and creation. There are people who cook and others who tell stories through taste. For Thanasis Sakkaris, cooking is exactly that, a way to communicate, share memories and bridge the past with the present.

In his philosophy, gastronomy is perhaps the most powerful tool for communication. Through a dish, cultures can meet, memories can be awakened and new experiences can be created. Travel and contact with different cultures were an inexhaustible source of inspiration for him. The summers in Kos, where he worked in an environment full of visitors from every corner of the world, gave him the opportunity to get to know different cultures, religious traditions and culinary habits. The greatest challenge was to manage to satisfy people with such different experiences, and this challenge fascinates him to this day. The core of his cuisine remains deeply Greek.

As Executive Chef at My Way Hotel & Events, he has shaped a cuisine that combines Greek tradition with contemporary creation and has contributed substantially to the gastronomic evolution of the city. He brought a new approach, a way of combining the traditional with the modern, creating a destination that attracts visitors from different countries, who know that there they can taste authentic Greek flavors that evolve and adapt. He knows that the “kitchen” is a living group of people that must function like an orchestra. And he himself, as the conductor of this creative process, ensures that the best possible result is achieved every day.
