S. Zacharakis: We are moving forward with 10,000 new appointments with emphasis on primary schools and especially kindergartens
The Government’s decision to proceed, this year, with the appointment of 10,000 additional teachers in order to meet the needs of schools in a timely manner was reiterated by the Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Sofia Zacharaki , in an interview with MEGA, while a total of 39,000 appointments have already been made.
“We are making good on our commitment to supporting public schools and my intention is to appoint more Kindergarten teachers by creating new organic positions,” the Minister emphasized, responding to a relevant question specifically about primary education.
Referring to the applications and upcoming exams for admission to Standard and Public Onassis Schools, as well as the Experimental lottery , Sofia Zacharaki said: “We have over 9,000 applications for 1,775 places in Standard, in Experimental we have 12,159 applications for 3,134 places, while for Onassis we have 3,274 applications for 1,166 places. This proves that the Greek family “thirsts” for good, diversified, improved public education and we are making sure to provide more choices.”
It is recalled that the entrance exams:
- in the Standards will be held on Saturday, May 3
- Indicative topics for entrance exams for Standard and Ecclesiastical Schools have been posted on the website depps.minedu.gov.gr.
- Onassis Public Schools (Middle School and High School) will be held on Sunday, May 4th
- The date of the public lottery for admission to the Experimental Schools is Friday, May 2nd.
- Parents will receive an SMS regarding the exam center and the student’s six-digit number 4 days before the exams are held.
Speaking to MEGA, the Minister emphasized that the decision on Standard, Experimental and Public Onassis Schools is issued in a timely manner, 6 months before the start of the new school year, in order to ensure family planning.
Finally, when asked about the digital tutoring center and its operation in view of the National Exams, which begin on 30/5 for GEL and 31/5 for EPAL, Sofia Zacharaki emphasized that “the digital tutoring center will operate normally until the last day, until the last special lesson of the National Exams is given. The digital tutoring center is here to stay, it is winning and will win even more as we continue to enrich and upgrade it.”
