Venezuela we are with you – Venezuela must stand up and not kneel
There are times when words seem inadequate in the face of human tragedy. The devastating earthquake that struck the country left behind dead, the number of whom can be nightmarish in the end, injured, families who lost their homes and people who, in 39 seconds, saw their lives change dramatically.
Behind the numbers there are faces, children with fear painted in their eyes, mothers trying to protect their families, elderly people who have lost the hard work of a lifetime, young people who are called upon to start from scratch.
In such moments there are no borders, political differences or ideologies. There is only man and when a people suffers the international community has a duty to stand by them with substantial assistance, speed and respect for their real needs.
The people themselves have proven that they possess dignity, strength and soul.
These values are what will help him get back on his feet. Solidarity is not just words, it is actions. It is giving, humanity, support without compensation. It is the reminder that no person should feel alone in the face of such a great disaster.
