When a country counts dead people, destroyed homes, and billions in damages, can its own national wealth remain trapped thousands of kilometers away?<\/p>\n\n

Venezuela is trying to get back on its feet after the two devastating earthquakes of June 24, 2026.<\/p>\n\n

The World Bank estimates direct physical damage at $19.6 billion, while the cost of reconstruction, including improvement needs and infrastructure reinforcement, could reach $50 billion.<\/p>\n\n

Behind the numbers, there are people, families who have lost their homes, hospitals that are under pressure, children without safe access to water, shelter and basic needs.<\/p>\n\n

1.8 million people, including 680,000 children, needed humanitarian aid, and at the same time a significant portion of Venezuela’s gold is in London.<\/p>\n\n

Today, however, the issue takes on a different dimension,<\/p>\n\n

Not just politics<\/p>\n\n

Not just legal<\/p>\n\n

But purely humanitarian.<\/p>\n\n

Gold does not belong to a president, it does not belong to a government, it does not belong to any political party, and of course it does not belong to the country that holds it. It is part of Venezuela’s national reserves and is essentially the wealth of its people. <\/p>\n\n

A serious question must be asked of Britain and the international community today: do you have the right to hold onto a country’s wealth just for the sake of some years-long legal dispute?<\/p>\n\n

Britain has always operated institutionally, of course there are legal problems, it cannot ignore court decisions and international law, but it can work with international organizations so that Venezuela’s wealth, with guarantees, serves those to whom it truly belongs, the people of Venezuela.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
